SUBJECT: European Ground Motion Service
The Earth’s
surface is in constant motion. Whether due to natural phenomena such as
tectonic activity or volcanism, or because of human activities such as
groundwater extraction or mining, the dynamism of the surface can have
significant impacts on infrastructure and natural ecosystems. In recent years,
increasing awareness of the potential risks related to ground motion has led to
a demand for comprehensive and reliable information on these movements.
The data can
be used for a variety of applications; city, regional, or state authorities can
use it to monitor the structural integrities of dams, bridges, railways, and
buildings.
Every dot on the island refers to a ground motion measurement.
The graph
below indicates a mean velocity -1.24mm/year of ground motion of Thassos between
2019-2023 measurements.
SUBJECT: LAND MEASUREMENTS -FOREST
CLASSIFICATION
Provides at
pan-European level in the spatial resolution of 10 m and 100 m a forest classification for three thematic classes (all
non-forest areas / broadleaved forest / coniferous forest) with the
agricultural/urban trees removed for the 2018 reference year.
SUBJECT: LAND MEASUREMENTS - SMALL WOODY
Provides at
pan-European level information on information on linear structures such as
hedgerows, as well as patches of woody features for the 2018 reference year.
Comparing
the last two images, we observe that the island displays forest cover in its
northeastern part while the rest consists of low-profile trees, which we could
assume refers to olive trees.
